Project Spotlight - BLACKBROOK TENNIS CENTRE.

Title of Project

7140 - Blackbrook Pavilion Tennis Centre

Description of Project

Design and Build contract for a 2 Court Indoor Tennis Facility covering 1258 sq.m (13540 sq.ft)

Why was it Manufactured?

The Blackbrook Tennis Centre already have a number of both indoor and outdoor courts, and had a requirement for further indoor courts.

The club is affiliated to the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) and sought their advice in respect of procuring further indoor facilities. The LTA was able to recommend Frame/Fabric structures as a good building option, and even provided partial funding.

Where is it Located?

Taunton, Somerset, U.K

What is unique about the structure and/or what technical difficulties were overcome to make it a reality ?

The site was very tight, and we had to ensure millimetre accuracy when installing the steel frame to comply with LTA regulations on building dimensioning. To the West end of the structure is a protected conservation area so access to the end gable had to be from long reach access booms or rope access from the roof of the structure.

The structure is a steel portal frame with our Modular Thermal Roof System and newly developed sustainable side walling system.

How did the project achieve the client’s needs?

J & J. Carter Ltd acted as a specialist sub-contractor to ROK Building for the customer. The new membrane has a design life of approximately 15 years and the steel frame in excess of 30 years. Our Thermal roof system offers a U Value of 2.33 kcal/m2 K and our walling offers 2.29 W/m2/K. Both the roof and walls are recyclable.

We have built a sustainable building. The walls are made from recycled UPVC, and can be used again and again. The PVC Polyester roof can be recycled at the Texyloop facility in Italy. The recycled PVC will be used to make products such as garden furniture or packaging.
