Washington, Tyne & Wear, U.K

What is unique about the structure and/or what technical difficulties were overcome to make it a reality ?

The canopy was built on a curved run, therefore accurate surveying after casting the holding down bolts was essent ial to ensure a good fit. The steel frame is also hot dip galvanised prior to painting.

How did the project achieve the client’s needs?

J & J. Carter Ltd acted as a specialist contractor to Kier Northern for Sunderland City Council. The new membrane has a design life of approximately 15 years and the steel frame in excess of 50 years.

We have built a sustainable membrane canopy. The PVC Polyester roof can be recycled at the Texyloop facility in Italy. The recycled PVC will be used to make products such as garden furniture or packaging.
