Project Profile - Hendy Car Showroom Eastleigh, Hampshire |
Title of Project
Hendy Car Showroom
Description of Project
Design and Build contract for a Tensile Fabric Canopy covering an outdoor used car sales pavilion.
Where is it Located?
Eastleigh, Hampshire, U.K
What is unique about the structure and/or what technical difficulties were overcome to make it a reality ?
The canopy had to interface with an existing building, which could not resist the canopy loads. The central column is installed through the hub at the apex of the pavilion. The hub had to be weathersealed using a flexible detail to allow for column movement.
The membrane is a Type IV Silver PVDF Lacquered PVC Coated Polyester. The properties of metallic finishes make High Frequency very difficult and new tooling had to be designed to ensure perfect welding.
How did the project achieve the clients needs?
J & J. Carter Ltd acted as a specialist contractor to Dean & Dyball for the customer. The new membrane has a design life of approximately 20 years and the steel frame in excess of 30 years.
We have built a sustainable membrane canopy. The PVC Polyester roof can be recycled at the Texyloop facility in Italy. The recycled PVC will be used to make products such as garden furniture or packaging.
