'Bayer Plc., Newbury, U.K - Interior Atrium Sails'

A total of 86.5 square metres of fabric sails have been installed in the Bayer Plc offices in Newbury. The sails located some 11 metres above ground level, have been designed and built by J & J. Carter Limited. A simple triangular steel frame was used as the hub of the design in order to suspend the sails, which are installed in the 250 sq.m atrium. Due to the basket weave construction the client was able to use the blue and grey woven combination in such a way, that 50% of the sails are installed as blue predominate and the balance grey predominate. The fabric is a woven glass fibre with a PVC coating, which conforms to BS 476 for fire retardency. Due to a complex roof truss arrangement, an accurate 3D survey and model was done to ensure total alignment of the sails with proposed fixings in the roof.
